Learning to Snorkel – How to Do It Right

Hello water sports fan!
Snorkeling is a water sport that almost anyone can learn quickly. But like with any sport, there are a few things you definitely should keep in mind. And we’ll share them with you here:

Learning to Snorkel – Here’s How!

What you need for snorkeling:
First, of course, you need proper snorkeling gear – besides your basic swimming skills. The market is full of products, but depending on your needs, your gear will at least include a diving mask and a snorkel. A great alternative is our Seaview 180° full-face diving mask, which offers a panoramic view experience, often paired with diving fins.

Where to learn snorkeling:
It’s best not to start right away in the open sea, but find a calm area protected from waves, with clear water, and shallow enough to stand if needed.
A local swimming pool is ideal to get familiar with snorkeling. There are also courses available – so if you want to be safe, join one and get professional advice.

Ten Easy Steps to Become a Snorkeling Pro:

  1. Choose optimal conditions: little waves, good visibility, weak currents, and the possibility to stand.

  2. Get used to the water temperature.

  3. Put on your diving mask and take the snorkel in your mouth. With a full-face mask like our Seaview 180°, you get a new breathing experience underwater. Get comfortable with it while standing.

  4. Try putting your head underwater and keep breathing calmly. Don’t panic—you can come up anytime if needed.

  5. Move around a bit underwater.

  6. Lift your feet off the ground and float face-down.

  7. Let yourself drift and swim a little.

  8. Check your breathing. If it feels off, adjust your mask.

  9. Now you can start kicking with your fins comfortably.

  10. Always try to get into a standing position if you feel unsure. It gives you confidence and makes snorkeling easier.

The Next Step:

Feeling like an experienced snorkeler and comfortable with your gear? Then head out to deeper waters or the open sea to improve your skills. But watch out for waves!

As you can see, learning to snorkel is no rocket science. Be patient and careful at the start. A pool may not have marine life, but it’s the perfect place to get used to snorkeling.

Now you’re ready to master advanced snorkeling techniques!
