Best Full Face Snorkel Mask 2026 – Safety Test & Review
Out of dozens of full face snorkel masks on Amazon, only one carries an independent SGS lab certification for CO₂ safety — the Khroom Pro.
The bottom line:
Full face snorkel masks are everywhere on Amazon — but most have a hidden problem: CO₂ buildup. We checked which masks actually have independent lab certification. Only one brand passed: Khroom, the German brand snorkelers in Europe have trusted since 2017.
The Problem Nobody Tells You About
Full face snorkel masks are wonderful — when they're built right. You breathe naturally through your nose and mouth, no plastic mouthpiece to fight with, no learning curve. That's why they exploded in popularity.
But there's a catch.
Because the mask covers your entire face, the air you breathe out has to go somewhere. If the mask doesn't properly separate fresh incoming air from exhaled air, you start re-breathing your own CO₂. The technical name is rebreathing, or in German diving literature, Pendelatmung — pendulum breathing.
And it doesn't take much to feel it. Studies and real-world reports describe:
- Headaches after just 5-10 minutes in the water
- Dizziness and disorientation
- Fogged-up lenses that block your view
- In serious cases: loss of consciousness underwater

The uncomfortable truth: The vast majority of full face snorkel masks on Amazon have zero independent safety testing. There is no mandatory CO₂ safety standard for snorkel masks in the US, which means anything can be sold — and "anti-fog" or "safe" claims on the listing page are just marketing words unless they're backed by a lab certificate.
After tragic snorkeling incidents in Hawaii in 2018, regulators and dive experts started asking the same question we did:
"Which masks have actually been tested by an independent lab?"
The answer turned out to be very short.
Why We Pay For Independent Lab Testing
Khroom was founded in Germany in 2017. In this video we explain the CO₂ problem in full face snorkel masks and why we built our brand around independent lab certification:
Heads up: this video is a few years old. It mentions our older "Seaview 180" model with ear pressure equalization — that one has since been replaced by our current Khroom Pro Plus. The CO₂ safety principles I explain are exactly the same.
Khroom is a German snorkel brand founded in 2017. Since then, we've sold over 100,000 masks across Europe and built up 1,745 Trustpilot reviews with a 4.7-star average.
From day one, our position was simple: if we're going to put a mask over a customer's face, we want to know — independently — that the air they're breathing is safe.
That's why we pay for testing at SGS — one of the world's leading independent inspection and certification labs, headquartered in Switzerland. Our Khroom Pro is tested against EN 136, the European norm for respiratory equipment. The test measures actual CO₂ concentration inside the mask during breathing — not marketing words, real lab data.
What "SGS certified" actually means: An independent third-party lab — not the manufacturer — physically tested the mask in their facility, measured CO₂ levels during simulated breathing cycles, and issued a written report confirming the mask meets the EN 136 standard. We didn't pay them for a "seal." We paid them to test the mask and tell us the truth.

The Mask That Passed: Khroom Pro
Khroom Pro — Our Bestseller
Best Full Face Snorkel Mask 2026
The Khroom Pro is what we'd recommend to anyone snorkeling at the surface — beginners, families on vacation, GoPro divers, anyone who's been frustrated by cheap masks that fog up or leak. It's been our bestseller for years for one reason: it just works.
- SGS lab certified for CO₂ safety (EN 136 standard)
- 180° panoramic view — crystal-clear, no distortion
- Zero fogging — engineered 4-valve airflow, not just a coating
- Medical-grade silicone seal — adapts to your face, no pressure marks
- GoPro mount included — capture your dive without holding the camera
- Dry-top snorkel — auto-seals at the surface to keep water out
- Spare parts available individually — you don't replace the whole mask if a strap wears out
Sizing: Available in S/M (under 5'6" / 170 cm) and L/XL (5'7" / 170 cm and taller). Not sure? Go L/XL — the silicone adapts.

If You Like To Duck-Dive: The Pro Plus
One thing the Khroom Pro can't do — and no other full face snorkel mask on Amazon can do either — is let you equalize ear pressure when you dip a few feet below the surface. That's because a normal full face mask covers your nose, so you can't pinch it.
That's the gap the Khroom Pro Plus fills. It adds an external nose pocket — you can reach in, pinch your nose, and equalize like you would with a regular dive mask. Everything else is the same as the Pro: same proven 4-valve airflow system, same 180° view, same medical-grade silicone seal.
Khroom Pro Plus — With Ear Pressure Equalization
Best Choice For Snorkelers Who Free-Dive
- Same proven 4-valve airflow system as our SGS-certified Khroom Pro
- Integrated nose pocket — pinch and equalize when you dive 1-3 meters
- 180° panoramic view with anti-fog ventilation
- Medical-grade silicone seal — comfortable for long sessions
- GoPro mount + dry-top snorkel included
- Sizes: S/M and L/XL
Who is it for? Snorkelers who want to dip below the surface to get closer to reefs, fish, or sunken objects. If you snorkel exclusively at the surface, the regular Pro is enough.

What Real Amazon Customers Say

"This is perfect, even for beginners. It is easy to put on and able to breathe easily with the mask. No problem with mask fogging or leaking. Great addition to our vacation!! Purchasing another for both of us to use."
Read full review on Amazon →"I have an unusually pointed chin. [Another brand] felt kind of like one of the face huggers from Aliens. Seeing that this brand had two sizes, I decided to try the large. It fit perfectly. The view with this mask is great, better visibility than my other mask. I can breathe comfortably... it's tight but still comfortable. It didn't cut off my air when I leaned forward like the other mask. The small amount of water that got in when I put it on drained out."

Two big differences. First: independent SGS lab certification for CO₂ safety — almost no other mask in this category has that. Second: the airflow system is engineered with four one-way valves that physically separate inhaled from exhaled air, which is why our mask doesn't fog up the way cheap ones do. Fogging is usually a symptom of poor air separation.
Use your height as a rough guide: S/M for under 5'6" (170 cm), L/XL for 5'7" and taller. The medical-grade silicone seal adapts to most face shapes within each size. If you're between sizes, go L/XL.
Full face snorkel masks are designed for the surface and shallow duck-dives. The regular Khroom Pro is for surface snorkeling. The Khroom Pro Plus has a nose pocket for ear pressure equalization and works for shallow dives of 1-3 meters (3-10 feet). Neither is meant for scuba — for that, use a regular dive mask with a separate regulator.
Let's be honest: no single snorkel mask in the world can fit every face shape — that's physically impossible. Faces differ in width, nose bridge height, chin length, and cheekbone structure. We designed our seal from medical-grade silicone to adapt to as many face shapes as possible, and after 100,000+ masks sold the vast majority of customers get a perfect fit on the first try.
